Fisher Island

Things About Luxury Yacht and Fisher Island

It’s a fairly well-known fact that there are plenty of wealthy folks in South Florida but, interestingly enough, there’s one place that’s not quite that well-traveled in spite of the fact that it’s often called “the richest zip code in the U.S.” Where is it? Well, it’s only a short three miles from Miami. Technically, it’s just east of Miami’s downtown area and south of Miami Beach on the other side of Biscayne Bay. It's called Fisher Island and size-wise, it's only about one square mile but that square mile is jam-packed with ultimate luxury,Mediterranean architecture, and lush tropical landscaping. Yes, Fisher Island is the epitome of lifestyles of the rich and famous.

Homes of the Rich & Famous
So, speaking of the rich and famous, many of them have either lived on Fisher Island full-time or had a vacation home there. From Oprah to Mel Brooks, Julia Roberts, Sharon Gless, TV producer Barney Rosenzweig, Victoria's Secret model Karolína Kurková, professional hockey players Evgeni Malkin, Sergei Gonchar, Ilya Kovalchukand Pavel Bure, and even tennis champions André Agassi, Caroline Wozniacki, andBoris Becker; everybody loves Fisher island!

Ultimate Luxury
And, what's not to love? You get beautiful South Florida weather paired with security, seclusion, and did we mention luxury? How much luxury and luxury boat rental does Fisher Island offer? Well, it has Mediterranean style mansions, an amazing luxury hotel with all the amenities possible, and several really high-end apartment buildings, as well as a very yacht private marina, and an observatory. There are no big box stores, fast food drive-thru's, neon signs, and no, not a Walmart in sight anywhere. There is an on-site emergency medical facility for residents and workers, as well as a post office, a bank, and a small grocery store. That's not a problem for residents and their guests on the island, however, because Miami is just a short boat ride away and, hey, who wouldn't enjoy that?

Once a One-Family Island
While many Miami areas remain loud and way over-caffeinated, Fisher Island is always truly tranquil and it's also where the true money is. And, it should be, based upon its history. It was, at one time, a one-family island that was owned by the famous Vanderbilts. In later years, a number of other millionaires owned it but it was eventually sold in the 1960s for development. For more than 15 years, however, the island was just sitting vacant prior to the start of development for very limited multi-family use.

Heavily Secured
It's not a one-family island anymore but the island is still somewhat inaccessible to uninvited guests and the public in general. In fact, it's basically just as exclusive as it was back in the Vanderbilts' day. It still provides the same level of retreat and refuge to residents. And, that's one of the most desirable things about Fisher Island, the feeling of safety. Both the island itself and the entry process are heavily secured. There are no roads or causeways connecting the island to the mainland. It's only accessible by ferry or private boat.

None Can Compare
It's true that there are a number of other wealthy areas in and around Miami that are much more well-known and they include Brickell, Coral Gables, Doral, Edgewater, and Miami Beach close to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. However, none of them can compare to the beauty, luxury, and security of Fisher Island. They don't call it the country's most expensive zip code for nothing.
